Writing Riot

Religion as a Tool – Alan, Grade 11

This commentary, based on a passage from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, is written by one of my grade 11 IB students. The writer focuses on Mr. Broklehurst’s level of hypocrisy, proving it by analysing the devices that Bronte has applied in the excerpt.  He has focused on three literary devices, namely irony, imagery, and allusion, to prove how hypocritical Mr. Broklehurst is.

Glowing Red Lights – Vagus Truman, Grade 10

This short story is written by one of my grade 10 students, whose pen name is Vagus Truman. His short story reveals the ambivalent feelings in teenagers, who at times may question the purpose and meaning in all their experiences, hoping to create an original meaning in their lives. He has vividly portrayed the dilemma that the main character is faced with. The imagery and descriptiveness bring the whole story to life.

Buying the Perfect Car – Daniel, Grade 7

This script, which is accompanied by google slides, is written by one of my grade 7 students. The script sounds lively and friendly. He has an effective introduction to begin and an effective conclusion to wrap up the presentation. He uses numerous transitions to move to the next slide. He has also used effective visuals and keywords on the slides to help the audience follow his presentation. The slides are not crowded and are easy to follow. He has also included relevant pictures and charts on the slides and makes numerous references to them in his script.
