No to Homework
Did you know that more than 50% of students suffer from homework anxiety? In one survey, 85.7% of students reported a stress level of seven or higher on a scale of one to ten related to homework. While some people believe that homework is necessary, many claim that homework causes more harm than good. Teachers must not assign homework because homework takes away students’ free time, creates stress and anxiety, and discriminates against certain students.
Without homework, students will have more free time to focus on their favorite activities. With more free time, students can dedicate themselves to activities they are passionate about, such as sports, music, art, or spend time with family and friends. This can foster creativity, improve social skills, and boost overall well-being. Students will also improve the activities that they are passionate about. Students with no homework will have more free time to focus on their favorite activities.
Not having to do homework can also reduce stress, anxiety and improve mental health. Homework has deadlines, which stresses students and gives them anxiety. If homework was banned, students’ mental health would improve and the rate of stress and anxiety would go down. With better mental health, students will focus better in class, and teachers will have more time to teach more lessons, which increases students’ knowledge. Students who do not have to do homework will have better mental health.
Assigning homework can also be unfair and discriminatory to some students. Some students have educated parents or tutors to help them, while others do not. Students with educated parents can have their parents help with more challenging homework, and students that have tutors can learn from them how to complete their homework and get a higher mark. Assigning homework can be unfair and discriminatory for students who do not have the same resources.
Teachers must ban homework since homework takes away students’ free time, causes stress and anxiety, and leads to discrimination against certain students. As long as teachers ban homework, teachers could have a class full of students who love learning and get happy when school starts.
